Barack Obama and John McCain both hope Angelina Jolie can help them kick their opponents behind the way she kicked Tom Cruise’s.

E! Online reports Jolie has replaced Cruise as the lead actor for the new espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt. The script is being rewrote so the main character will be a female spy.

The movie is about a CIA spy who gets accused of spying for the Russians. It will be directed by Philip Noyce, who also did the Bone Collector.

This comes as the political website Wilshire and Washington reports the two American presidential candidates are in a scramble for Jolie’s endorsement. She is one of a few Hollywood celebs who have not yet made up their mind about whom they are supporting.

In a statement to Variety magazine, Jolie said, “I have not decided on a candidate,” Jolie says, “I am waiting to see the commitments they will make on issues like international justice, refugees and how to address the needs of children in crisis around the world.”

Her final choice, Jolie says, will depend “on issues like international justice, refugees and how to address the needs of children in crisis around the world.”

Unlike many other celebrity endorsements, Jolie’s carries the weight and influence of her extensive humanitarian work around the world, as the goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Her statement was an indication that she would be open to choosing a candidate.

Although most celebs seem to favour Obama, Jolie differs from the Democratic contender on his Iraq policy.

In a recent op-ed in the Washington Post, she declared that she is not that keen on a fast withdrawal from Iraq. She wrote, “My visit [to Iraq] left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.”

In the meantime, Paris Hilton has declared that she will not affiliate herself with any party that doesn’t pay her at least 40 grand to attend and set her up with a sweet gift bag.
